What Are We Learning This Month?

Our topics and focus will be detailed on this page.  Check back often as we learn and discover new things in class!

What's Going On?

What Are We Learning This Month?

ELA and Science
During the month of September we will learn about simple machines.

Students will work through the scientific process as they discover what simple machines are, and what they can be used for.  They will work in groups and perform scientific experiments using simple machines.~
  • Students will then use what they have learned and work in groups to create their own device that includes a simple machine. The device that was created will then be marketed to the world!

Math
  • We started place value to the millions last week.  This month we will focus on place value (Numbers and operations in base ten).  Students will work with numbers into the millions.  Students will learn how to:
  • ~round to any digit
  • ~read and write numbers to the millions place
  • ~compare multi-digit numbers using the symbols <, >, and =.
What's up for next month?:  Geometry, Poetry, narrative writing and figurative language
